IMPORTANT BLOG UPDATE! – 07/23/12
Hey, guess what? I am not dead! Well, now to more pressing matters…
The URL Nintendobros.com will be going offline in a few days. More precisely, on July 26, 2012, the URL nintendobros.com will cease to exist. So what does this mean? Nothing bad, really. I just decided it was time to broaden my horizon and get a new URL. The title of “NintendoBros” sounds as if the focus is on Nintendo and only Nintendo, and for a few years, it was. My video game interests shifted a long time ago, so this change is long overdue. So what now you ask? If you have bookmarked this site, then you are going to want to update your bookmarks. The new URL for this site is Midenhall.com. Optionally, you can always use the default wordpress URL – http://www.nintendobros.wordpress.com – since that one will never change. I will try to update the old url links to the new one, such as on Youtube and other sites. Midenhall.com will become the primary URL once nintendobros.com goes offline. That’s all the important stuff. Read on to find out more about the change and other stuff I have been up to.
1. URL Change
First off, why “Midenhall”? Midenhall is a Castle and starting point of the game Dragon Quest II (Dragon Warrior 2 localized). Dragon Quest II is my second best DQ title and one of my favorite games of all time. The Hero himself, Prince of Midenhall (the guy in the middle in image above), is my favorite DQ Hero. Funny thing is, I played the Snes translation, where Midenhall was called Laurasia. I usually always go for the names I originally played with, but in this case, Midenhall gives of a more medieval vibe, which is what lots of RPGs are based on, and yes – I love RPGs. Expect to see lots of Dragon Quest and Monster Hunter amongst other stuff.
2. My Status – Where’s all the Hacking and Modding Stuff?!
I am not actively modding any games, and haven’t been doing so since before my last post on this blog. Am I retired from the hacking scene? I guess you could say that. While I do mod games and make codes every now and then, it’s usually for personal enjoyment, and not enough to warrant sharing, since most of those unreleased mods are very specific to my liking. And if I start on a project, it’s because I will finish it, which I don’t have time for now. I WILL, however, linger around the modding scene for any game or console and post about stuff I find interesting, like how I turned my 3DS into a gamepad and mouse for my Laptop. I also apologize for the missing files of which many were hosted on Megaupload. Unfortunately, many mods were lost due to Megaupload going down, hence, some are lost for good. Others I can still upload, like the New Super Mario bros textures, which again, I apologize for never taking the time to release them. This is all I can think of for this section.
3. Future of
I have plans to start updating the blog regularly once more. Video game news of all kinds, modding, blogging, rants, etc. I appreciate the work the Nintendobros mod team has contributed to the site and will be moving all members to a special dedicated page. Yes, this means the old modding team is over. This will once again turn into a personal blog. Perhaps something more in the future. Who’s up for some Super Mario Bros. X Online?
Inspired by the new DQ game, Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 2: Professional, I have revamped the site. Many of you might know by now I’m a big Dragon Quest fan, and will be dedicating my time to further promote the series whenever I am not hacking and stuff. Like the new look? Hate it? Post your thoughts! I do plan on making codes and hack videos, just not right now. I’m currently moving (again) and don’t have my stuff set-up yet. I also want to get a better capture card. Looking forward to getting an HD-PVR. Well, that’s all for now. Enjoy the new look!
This ain’t no update, just here to inform that I will be taking a break from Hacking for the Month of December. I may update once in a while with stuff I should have posted long ago. I will re-upload all my Item textures soon. Also, I noticed many people are now participating in the Brawl Hacking Scene, and that’s good. But…
I’m relieving a bit of stress by changing the site’s scheme. Should I revert to the “before” theme? Or is this ok? I’m still working on a header, and although the tabs on the top are missing, I think it looks nice.
EDEITY: I think the overall look and feel is coming along nicely. I miss the tabs, but now the posts stand out more =)
What exactly is CODE GREEN? Well, it doesn’t mean anything actually. Except that I’ve made a few new custom textures, and to my surprise, they are all green. Someone suggested a green Mario final smash, so i did it, kinda. Then I was messing with item textures, and for some reason I decided to change the Hammer handle to Green. And yesterday that I woke up, I felt like doing another Final Destination stage TXS, which theme is the Matrix, and sure enough, its Green. I didn’t plan to do lotsa green stuff, but it happened. I also updated the TXS Brawl roster with the Phanto Smash Ball texture, which I placed as a separate link because there can only be one custom Smash Ball for each Common3.pac file. So there are 2 Item PACS up for grabs. One with Zunny, and one with Phanto. You can only HaZ one at a time, so keep a copy of both PAC files for whenever you want to kick Zunny’s or Phanto’s non-existent butts.
So, um, keep reading for previews of the new textures. Duh.
I’m setting things up on Ustream for a live broadcast for “X” reason (X=variable, hence broadcasts will vary). I am trying to balance out the quality and framerate + Bandwith issues. I will be running a game or two live on the Nintendo Bros Ustream Channel tomorrow (or should I say later today?), so anyone who is interested can drop by and let me know if the quality and framerate is decent.
I’ll be running some tests, but feel free to give a visit.
Just thought I’d let everyone know. The new 3.4 File Patcher code (now 3.5 as of 7/15/09) has been posted [as an update] in the Starter Guide for custom music. Here’s a little note from Phantom Wings:
But in any case, I’ve posted the File Patch Code v3.4 in the code thread. Contrary to my initial prediction, it’s actually shorter than v3.2. I’m pretty sure this one will quell all of the most prominent bugs that are being reported out there.
I made sure to give it a test run by blasting through all the characters in the CSS four at a time simultaneously, (each had a texture) then selecting two PT’s, Samus, and Zelda, (holding R on Samus for good measure) and then selecting FD which has a texture and custom music track on. (all while there was a custom music track playing in the CSS) I also ran a test in training which involved spamming v-B with Zelda while holding a Smashball (textured FS) and having a custom music track playing. Both tests did not yield any freezes so I guess only time will tell the rest.
The only thing left to fix now is the SD security system that the Wii seems to employ. -Phantom Wings
